A scholarship, supported by the Marsden Fund, is available for a PhD student to work in the Evolutionary Computation Research Group, School of Engineering and Computer Science at Victoria University of Wellington (VUW), New Zealand.

The scholarship will cover tuition fees, provide a stipend for up to 3 years and support a Marsden funded project in distributed data-intensive service composition. The project will focus on developing new evolutionary computation algorithms for data-intensive service composition, selection and distribution. Research experience and knowledge in the area of web services and service composition, combinatorial optimisation, distributed database systems, and/or big data would be an advantage. The student will be supervised by Dr. Hui Ma at VUW and Prof. Sven Hartmann at Clausthal University of Technology, and work together with other people at the Evolutionary Computation Research Group.

Selection criteria

Applicants need a BSc with a first class Honours or Master’s degree in Computer Science (with a GPA of 3.5/4.0 or above), including research experience and publications in web service composition and distribution, databases, big data, evolutionary computation, and/or combinatorial optimisation.
