AMETEK Foundation, Inc. International STEM Scholarship Program for Europian and Chinese Nationals


The AMETEK Foundation, Inc. International STEM Scholarship Program, sponsored by AMETEK Foundation, Inc. provides scholarship awards of $1,000 to $5,000 USD. The scholarship is open to students who are residents* of China or the European Union (EU) who plan to continue their education in a STEM field. Applicants must be in their final year of upper or higher secondary school and plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study or be current technical or university level students who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at one of the following three schools for the entire upcoming academic year:

  • Shanghai University of Engineering Science in Shanghai, China;
  • INSA in Lyon, France; or
  • University of Leicester, in Leicester, England.
*Applicants must be a resident of the European Union (EU) to apply for the scholarships offered in France and in the United Kingdom and be a resident of China to apply for the scholarship offered in China.
Students must major in a STEM field of study. A STEM major is defined as study in one of the following fields: Science (Physics or Chemistry), Technology (Computer Software Engineer, Information Security Specialist, Information Technology, or Database Administrator), Engineering, or Mathematics. Study in any medical field is not eligible.
This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America. Scholarship Management Services is the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin.

Postdoc position distributed database systems at the University of Waterloo

Postdoc at the University of Waterloo

A postdoctoral position is available in the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo in the area of distributed database systems. This joint project with Huawei is to investigate the design of hybrid transaction/analytical processing (HTAP), a new generation of in-memory data platforms that can perform both online transaction processing (OLTP) and online analytical processing (OLAP). In particular, the project will explore techniques for physical database design, distributed transaction synchronization through efficient consensus protocols, and for achieving scalability with OLAP and OLTP workloads. This project is under the direction of Prof. Tamer Ozsu and Khuzaima Daudjee.

The ideal candidate for this position would have the following qualifications:
  • a Ph.D. in computer science or closely-related field 
  • a solid background in the area of distributed database systems 
  • ability to conduct experimental systems research 
  • experience with building systems and tools 
  • a good command of spoken and written English Background in the areas of distributed systems, operating systems and performance analysis would be an asset.

This position has some flexibility in the start date and pays $55,000 plus benefits with the requirement to teach one course per academic year. The position is for 18 months with the possibility of extending it for another 6 months.
