This research focuses on reliable transport of live multimedia flows,
mainly audio and video. You will work on characterizing different types
of networks, and propose original solutions to provide high quality of
service on top of these networks when using several paths
simultaneously. The two main goals to achieve are low latency, since we
focus on live communications, and high quality of service, to provide
the best experience to the user.
Many new services are provided over the top, which means that no
specific lower layers services are provided by the network operators to
build upon. Your goal will be to study, propose and implement a new
transport protocol to reach the goal of high quality live multimedia
communications using conventional Internet access. You will conduct
research to study three different topics: (i) multi-path transport, (ii)
reliable transport, using various strategies like retransmission,
interleaving, coding, and (iii) dynamic adaptation. We expect thorough
study with analytical and experimental approaches, with effective
simulation and implementation results.
High quality prototype implementation is of prime importance and is
an expected outcome of your work. You will interact with engineers
developing professional hardware and software products for multimedia
data transmission. They will provide all the necessary support to
conduct real world experimentations to validate your results with
practical use cases.
Skills & Expertise
Applicants for this position must have an MSc or equivalent at the
time they start in the position. We are looking for excellent candidates
with the following:
- Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or equivalent
- Strong motivation to conduct high quality research in a challenging environment
- Excellent programming skills and good software development practices
- Knowledge in network and kernel programming is a real plus
- Excellent English speaking and writing skills are mandatory
- Basic French skills are required, but this position is an opportunity to learn and improve

- Annual gross salary: 27k€ (CIFRE contract with Digigram)

Location and Institution
This position is a joint position with Digigram and Grenoble INP -
LIG laboratory. Digigram and LIG are only a few kilometers from one
another with a direct bus line between the two.
