UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 , Mapping readers and readership in Dublin: 1826-1926

Post Title: UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 Duration: up to 2 years

Project Title: Mapping readers and readership in Dublin: 1826-1926 

This project is funded by the Irish Research Council (IRC) as a collaboration between the School of Computer Science and the School of History at UCD. The main objective of the project is the spatio-temporal analysis of data available from Marsh’s library in Dublin to find potential patterns regarding the readership and reading in Dublin in the period 1826-1926. This postdoctoral position will be based at the school of Computer Science and supervised by Dr. Michela Bertolotto but it will involve frequent interactions with researchers at the school of History and from the Marsh’s Library. The postdoctoral researcher will investigate spatio-temporal data modelling approaches to store and query the data. The development of visual analytics techniques for visual display and investigation of the data will also form part of this research. The researcher will exploit web-based open source technology as well as freely available spatial data (eg. OpenStreetMap) for data mapping and display. Salary: €31,275 per annum

Mandatory Requirements: 

  • PhD in Computer Science, GIS or a related discipline 
  • A demonstrated commitment to research and publications 
  • An understanding of the operational requirements for a successful research project 
  • Evidence of research activity (publications, conference presentations, awards) and future scholarly output (working papers, research proposals, and ability to outline a research project. 
  • Excellent Communication Skills (Oral, Written , Presentation etc) 
  • Excellent Organisational and Administrative skills including a proven ability to work to deadlines 

Desirable: 

  • Experience with spatial databases 
  • Familiarity with OpenStreetMap and web service technology 
  • Experience in setting own research agenda

Two postdoctoral researcher positions are available immediately at Lero - The Irish Software Research Centre

Post Doctoral Researcher/Research Fellow (Lero, University of Limerick, Ireland)


Salary: Post Doctoral Researcher: €37,750 - €46,255 p.a.
Research Fellow: €51,716 – €56,442 p.a.

Two postdoctoral researcher positions (12-18 months duration) are available immediately at Lero - The Irish Software Research Centre (www.lero.ie), at the University of Limerick (www.ul.ie), to work on a European Research Council (ERC) project on Adaptive Security and Privacy (www.asap-project.eu).

The research work lies at the intersection of three areas - software engineering, security & privacy, and adaptive/ubiquitous systems - and skills or experience in at least two of them is highly desirable.

The successful applicants will have an opportunity to shape their own research agenda within the overall project's scope, working independently but also collaboratively with other colleagues at Lero.
