Notification of Applicants and Evaluation of Applications

The selection of the Visiting Fellows will be concluded by 6 April 2016, and the names of the Aleksanteri Visiting Fellows will be published on the Institute’s website. All applicants will be personally notified of the result.  The applications are evaluated by three experts. Feedback on the applications will not be provided.  In 2016-2017, we expect to invite 10 Visiting Fellows.

Please note that if, subsequent to an applicant being selected as a Visiting Fellow, the research plan presented in the application changes considerably, a new research plan must be approved before the applicant may take up the Fellowship appointment.

Practical matters

Please note that the fellowship is a grant, not a salary, and is therefore not subject to Finnish
taxation. Accordingly, Visiting Fellows are not staff members of the University of Helsinki and are therefore not entitled to University of Helsinki staff benefits, such as insurance and occupational health care. Because Fellows are not covered by the University’s insurance policy, they are expected to make arrangements for their own medical insurance and to provide proof of a valid insurance policy when beginning their fellowship term. The Aleksanteri Institute will assist successful applicants with practical arrangements and will make reservations for accommodation to the University of Helsinki guest houses.

Aleksanteri Visiting Fellows Alumni

We wish to continue working with our previous Visiting Fellows who want to further develop research cooperation with colleagues in Finland, and we welcome re-submissions to the Visiting Scholars programme by its Alumni. The Aleksanteri Institute encourages development of research cooperation also by providing support for Visiting Fellows Alumni to short visits to Helsinki for conducting joint work with the Institutes’ resident researchers.
