Fully Funded Scholarships for Afghan nationals at LUMS, Pakistan

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Afghanistan Scholarship Programme (ASP), which was announced by H.E. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani during his visit to Islamabad in November last year. This is an exclusive scholarship for talented Afghan students to study at LUMS in its undergraduate and graduate programmes. The programme will be implemented by the HRD Division of Higher Education Commission, Islamabad in collaboration with Ministry of Foreign Affairs & LUMS.



Afghan students that are successfully admitted on merit will be funded through full scholarships throughout their study at LUMS.

The ASP is an exciting development that expands upon thousands of years of relationship between the two neighbours. While providing an opportunity to the best and brightest Afghan students to study at LUMS and build excellent leadership skills for future, it will allow LUMS students and faculty to benefit from the fresh and unique perspective that these students will bring and further promote goodwill and people to people contacts among the neighboring countries. Scholarships will be awarded to Business Administration and Science & Engineering degrees under the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) and Syed Babar Ali School of Science & Engineering (SBASSE) respectively; Bachelors and Masters Level.

All prospective students who are citizens of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan are urged to prepare for the international tests which are a pre-requisite for admission into LUMS. Undergraduate students are required to take the SAT I examination for the School of Business and both SAT I and SAT II/LUMS SBASSE Subject Test for admission into the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering. At the graduate level, GMAT is required for business students and GRE for science and engineering students.

The scholarship will cover all expenses related to study at LUMS including tuition, boarding and lodging, study material and travel to LUMS. The government of Afghanistan has allocated a fund of USD 1 Million for this programme that will be complemented by an additional USD 2 Million announced by the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, so more of the Afghan talent can benefit from this.

The programme will commence from the Academic year 2016/17.
